The Urban Coral Gallery

The Urban Coral Gallery is a collective gallery for artists looking for the opportunity to invest in themselves and take their artistic careers to the next level. This gallery formally known as Loft Beats will be dedicated to teaching emerging artists how to display, market and become a part of an arts community through participation in monthly shows as well as attending Pomona Arts Colony Associations meetings. The success of the gallery is determined by the participating artists. If you would like more information on how to become a member of this gallery use the contact form . Space is limited and is on a first come first served basis.

The name Urban Coral was originally suppsed to be the name of the Loft. The unexpected popularity of the series of Loft Beats themed shows soon left the name to be forgotten, until now. The term Urban Coral refers to Erns Valdez's outlook on what what graffiti murals are to a city. Not to be looked at as vandalism or an ethnic art form but a beautifull organic part of a city that shows it's full of life and culture. Erns had this conversation with a writer who was then inspired to write this poem;

(Erns)
I saw you still as the tide came rising
Waved your hand at it like it was not there
As if the sprawl could keep us hiding
Looking into the maelstrom with a fearless stare

the URBAN CORAL thrives in the concrete wake
Under the stale gaze that statues recall
the beautiful things we've struggled to make
against this canvas that has made us so small

As you plant the polyps one-by-one
anchoring transformations that all undergo
how the reef struggles to bloom in the sun
and the effort it takes to let the barrier grow

the supremacy of the your wry leer
propels the waves against the shore
your colors and light feast on that fear
in tropical nights where we reign this war

The Gallery was originally supposed to be a graffiti/street art gallery but we will showcase all types of art. We expect great things from this project and those who participate in it.
